Der neue West-End-Hit “Ghost - the Musical” könnte schon bald seine Broadway-Premiere feiern. Bereits für April 2012 soll ein Start im Gespräch sein, das schreibt die New York Post.
Anfang der Woche gingen indes für die Produktion am West End weitere 350.000 Tickets in den Verkauf – bis Oktober 2012 kann man sich nun bereits Eintrittskarten sichern.
Michael Riedel von der New York Post sieht für eine mögliche Broadway-Premiere von “Ghost” gute Chancen, da die neuen Shows der neuen Saison den gestrengen Kritiker nicht gerade vom Sockel reißen. Blockbuster vermag er unter “Lysistrata Jones”, “Nice Work If You Can Get It” und Frank Wildhorns “Bonnie & Clyde” keinen auszumachen. Das neue Frank-Wildhorn-Musical, so Riedel, habe zwar einige gute Lieder, aber:
“… it’s a Frank Wildhorn musical, and that means the critics will arrive with switchblades.”
Lustig ist er ja schon, denn das schärfste Messer hat Herr Riedel ja immer als Erster in der Hand.

If you’re a canny producer with a new musical ready to go, now’s the time to take advantage of a weak field. And that’s just what the people behind “Ghost,” which opened in London last month, are looking to do. They’ve met quietly with New York theater owners and, sources say, will try to get the show here in April, just before the Tony Awards cutoff.
Based on the hit 1990 movie starring Demi Moore, Patrick Swayzeand Whoopi Goldberg, what “Ghost” has going for it is its director, Matthew Warchus, who’s been racking up a lot of winners — “The Norman Conquests,” “God of Carnage,” “Boeing-Boeing.”
His slick production of “Ghost” features cutting-edge videos and projections of New York in the ’90s — the subway, Wall Street, Times Square. The opening-night crowd was also impressed with his sleight-of-hand staging of ghostly comings and goings.
The musical closely tracks the movie, telling the story of a psychic who reunites an artist with her murdered boyfriend.
Still, the romantic story at the center of “Ghost” is potent, and as popular hits such as “Aida” and “The Phantom of the Opera” have shown, romance can be a powerful hook on Broadway.
