In wenigen Tagen, gleich nach dem Osterfest, wird “Irish Girl”, die neue Single der Folk-Rock/Pop-Band Morton erscheinen. Die Fotografin Isabell Schatz wurde damit beauftragt, Aufnahmen für das CD-Cover und die Promotionkampagne zu schießen. Ein paar Bilder davon sind schon vorab hier zu sehen (Copyright: Isabell Schatz).

Morton, das sind Rob Fowler (Singer/Songwriter) und Zoltan Sebestyen (Gitarrist/Songwriter). Die beiden Künstler haben sich 2004 in Wien dazu entschlossen, eine Band zu gründen, als Bandname verwendete man kurzerhand den Namen der Geburtsstadt von Rob Fowler: Morton. Die zwei Musiker bezeichnen ihren Stil als Retro-Rock, besonderen Wert legen sie auf einen erdigen, echten Sound. Rob Fowler im O-Ton, wie es zur Entstehung der Band gekommen ist:

I did not jump at the chance to write my own songs, this just happened when Zoltan and i met by chance in MG Sound studios. We found we had similar interests concerning music so we just said “hey lets sit down for a coffee”. From that moment we just threw some ideas into the wind. Then all of a sudden there was an album worth of stories of rock-pop music.

2006 erschien ihre erste CD “Pillow Talk”, aus der zwei Singles, darunter das erfolgreiche “Stop crying your heart out”, ausgekoppelt wurden.

Für September 2009 ist mit “Chocolate” die zweite CD geplant. Als Vorab-Single wurde bereits 2008 der Song “Sorry, what ever I do” veröffentlicht, “Irish Girl” soll nun die Wartezeit bis zum Herbst 2009 verkürzen. Komponiert wurde die Nummer von Zoltan Sebestyen, die Lyrics stammen von Rob Fowler, wobei beide in Melodie und Text ihren Input eingebracht haben. Das Lied handelt von einer alten Frau, die an Alzheimer leidet und in ihrem immer schlechter werdenden Zustand ihre letzten Tage wie in Trance als Flashback in ihre Kindheit erlebt. Musikalisch gesehen ist es Folk-Rock, auch hier wieder mit einem gewissen Retro-Touch und einem erdigen Sound. Rob Fowler dazu:

First and foremost the sound of Morton is a natural development of two song writers adapting to each others instincts. Secondly, the music style is created by Zoltan, he being the arranger. When i say style i mean the choice of instruments to create the emotion through sound.

Rob Fowler hat sich in den letzten Jahren in Europa eine sehr respektable Karriere als Musicalsänger aufgebaut. Wie steht er heute zum Musicalbusiness und inwieweit führt ihn die Konzentration aufs Popbusiness vom “Musical” weg:

I feel that the whole experience of being a musical actor has allowed me to be more open and philosophical. The people I have met on my journey, be it politicians, CEOs, colleagues and not forgetting the different cultures of countrys I have been fortunate to visit have all been influencial to the lyrics and music of Morton. Therefore, I will be ever in debt to Musical Theatre for the opportunity to live a life many people can only dream of.

I feel that as a musical leading man, people will always be waiting to find something negative to say on the topic of writing your own music. However, music is in my heart, whether it be Musical Theatre or with Morton.

I never say never concerning a return to Theatre, however, for the next period of time I will be focusing on “Chocolate”, the new album of Morton, due for release in September.
