Obwohl wir noch nicht den 1. April hatten, war die Meldung, wonach Tim Rice mit Lloyd Webber an einem “Phantom”-Sequel arbeite, offensichtlich eine Falschmeldung. Liz Smith, Kolumnistin der New York Post und Variety, scheint wohl etwas falsch verstanden zu haben. Wie auch immer, am 26. März ließ Andrew Lloyd Webber klarstellen, dass der amerikanische Texte Glenn Slater, und nicht Tim Rice, derzeit an den Texten zum Phantom-Sequel arbeitet [Playbill].

Ursprüngliche Meldung:
Tim Rice (”Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat”, “Evita”) arbeitet als Texter mit Andrew Lloyd Webber am Sequel des Musicals “The Phantom of the Opera”. Jack O’Brien (”Hairspray”, “The Invention of Love”, “The Coast of Utopia”) wird Regie führen, ein Uraufführungstermin wird für 2009 angestrebt. Komponiert hat Sir Andrew angeblich schon, das berichtet Liz Smith, Kolumnistin der New York Post, und zitiert Webber:

Tim is brilliant, but he likes to do whatever comes easily. I’m fond of him, but he’s most irritating. Because really he should be doing the lyrics for the new Phantom. He knows he should phone me. […] It’s a great story and I think I’ve written a fairly strong score. I write quickly and have written it in my head all the way through. So all the building blocks are there; I just need to put it in shape. But this show will be the toughest thing I have ever done. Even if it is the greatest thing ever written artistically, it will never come up to what the first one was commercially.[Playbill]
