… und die Verantwortlichen (130 New Yorker Theaterkritiker, Reporter und Zeitungsherausgeber) haben sich in diesem Jahr dazu entschieden, ihre Awards auf recht viele Produktionen zu verteilen, nämlich auf genau 14 Shows. So ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass Monty Phyton’s “Spamalot” sich trotz 12 Nominierungen mit 3 Preisen begnügen musste - immerhin wurde die Show als “Outstanding Musical”, also mit einem der Hauptpreise, geehrt.
Die beiden Gewinner der diesjährigen Verleihung sind Adam Guettels “The Light in the Piazza” und “Doubt” - John Patrick Shanleys Schauspiel über einen Priester, dem man sexuellen Mißbrauch vorwirft. Beide Produktionen wurden mit je 5 Preisen ausgezeichnet.
“Doubt” erhielt Preise in den Kategorien “Outstanding Play”, “Best Actress” (Cherry Jones), “Best Actor” (Brian F. O’Bryne), “Best featured Actress” (Adriane Lenox), “Regie” (Doug Hughes).
“Piazza” konnte folgende Kategorien für sich entscheiden: “Actress in a Musical” (Victoria Clark), “Music” (Adam Guettel), “Orchestrations” (Guettel, Ted Sperling, and Bruce Coughlin), “Lighting” (Christopher Akerlind) und “Set Design for a Musical” (Michael Yeargen).
