In der Nacht zum Montag fand in New York die diesjährige Tony Awards-Verleihung statt. Man ist versucht zu sagen, dass es in der Rubrik “Musicals” einige Verlierer und keine Gewinner gibt, jedenfalls keinen triumphalen Gewinner. “The Drowsy Chaperone” konnte einige Hauptkategorien für sich entscheiden, aber als “Bestes Musical” wurden die “Jersey Boys” ausgezeichnet, “The Color Purple”, für 11 Tonys nominiert, wurde mit nur einem einzigen Award bedacht. Keine Awards gingen an: The Wedding Singer, The Threepenny Opera, Lestat, Tarzan, The Woman in White und Chita Rivera: The Dancer’s Life. Die Liste der Gewinner liest sich wie folgt:
